As the introduction to the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes embody the teachings of Jesus as the ‘Magna Charta’, the essence of Christianity: Jesus as the teacher of wisdom at the height of all great philosophers, thinkers and religious founders, but who also emphasised the social and humanistic aspects of human coexistence. The Beatitudes and the Sermon on the Mount have universal implications, such as human rights or the ideal concept of democracy.
