Introduction: The four songs of the Trakl-Träume combine the textual principles (addition and subtraction processes, polycyclical development, polymetry etc.) of minimal music with the tradition of the German Lied with piano accompaniment. In this way it was possible to recreate the characteristic atmosphere of the poems by Georg Trakl (1887-1914) in musical form; the contrast between Trakl's imprisonment within the mechanics of his obsessions and fears and the outcry of his expressionistic individualism corresponds to the contrast between the objectively rigid temporal corset of minimalist machinery and the erratic subjectively of numerous musical gestures.
