Introduction: TOCCATA FESTOSA is - inspired by the dedicatee - a virtuoso and rhythmic fanfare in which each part represents a demanding part and everything combines to create an energetic festive piece of music.
The composition was written for Hannes Läubin, who will retire as a professor in summer 2024 and can look back on a brilliant career in Munich as a soloist, as principal trumpeter in the Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra and as a sought-after teacher at the Munich University of Music and Theatre. Personally, I have been friends with Hannes since the early 1970s, when I learnt to play this extravagant instrument together with him in Robert Bodenröder's trumpet class at the Staatliche Musikhochschule Freiburg i. Br. This was later followed by joint concerts, LPs and CDs, where I was able to come into contact (then as organist or conductor) with this unparalleled, exceptional musician.
