„Mechanics of shame“ („mécanisme de la pudeur“) for ensemble
Prologue for the program:
THE BRIDE OF MARCEL DUCHAMP refers to the painting "The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors (mechanism of shame / mechanical shame)", which was created in Munich (24x32 cm) and painted with pencil, ink and India ink. It is about technical schematic thinking to represent the most intimate feelings. From an autobiographic point of view, the tragic of his love can be found in this painting. When he was 24 years old, he lived in Munich and was in love with Gabrielle Buffet-Picabia, who was married to his friend, the artist Francis Picabia. He once drove 700 kilometers from Munich to the French Jura, in order to meet his unattainable beloved in the waiting room of a small railway station. The painting (pencil, ink, India ink on card paper) is exhibited at the Centre Pompidou in Paris under the title "La mariée mise à nu par les célibataires (Mécanisme de la pudeur / Pudeur mécanique)" - "The Bride Stripped Bare By Her Bachelors (mechanism of shame / mechanical shame)".
