William Byrd died 400 Years ago and gave us a large repertoire, ...including THE BELLS. He wrote this work for harpsichord solo that is as singular as it is iconic in music history - a true evergreen - which, surprisingly, can also be placed in the symphonic orchestration presented here associatively next to modern works such as those of minimal music or Arvo Pärt. A challenge for each orchestra!

Introduction: William Byrd wrote 400 years ago a work for harpsichord solo that is as singular as it is iconic in music history - a true evergreen - which, surprisingly, can also be placed in the symphonic orchestration presented here associatively next to modern works such as those of minimal music or Arvo Pärt. Carl Orff already orchestrated this harpsichord work in 1928 under the title "Entrata" because he was fascinated by the ostinato character and the repetitive gesture of the musical texture. Music from the time before 1600, - fresher today than ever!
