Composing for documentary films has increasingly become the centre of my film music work. The last 6-CD box set from Alhambra Records (2013) already contained over a dozen docu-music scores. I love docu-film music because it stands in the exciting field of forces between documentary "reality" and subjective shaping of emotions. -
Going into docu's is also like an adventure trip: foreign cultures, landscapes of the whole world and the unknown thus come into the recording studio and inspire the imagination.
Introduction: Composing for documentary films has increasingly become the centre of my film music work. The last 6-CD box set from Alhambra Records (2013) already contained over a dozen docu-music scores. I love documentary film music because it stands in the exciting field of forces between documentary "reality" and subjective shaping of emotions: a key concept here is the claim of "authenticity" as something "objective". - Going into documentaries is also like an adventure trip: foreign cultures, landscapes of the whole world and the unknown thus come into the recording studio and inspire the imagination - far more than feature films, which are nevertheless often staged according to serial clichés.
The passionate collaboration of many people is hidden behind here. The music-making of many musicians not named here: soloists, in ensembles and in the Philharmonic Film Orchestra Munich, which has been put together for me consistently since the 1990s by Manfred Hufnagel (Munich Philharmonic). Thanks to the directors who entrusted me with the scoring of their films. Thanks to the sound engineers. Klaus Strazicky, for example, was responsible for most of the film music: "Ferry Passages", "Hessen Von Oben", "Sardinia - Island in the Wind", "Armageddon (The Super Comet)", the two films on "Auschwitz", the four-part "Bavaria!", "2057 - The World in Fifty Years". I would also like to thank the producer team of Alhambra Records, John Elborg and Jürgen Himmelmann, who have provided editorial support for my film music work for many years.
