The Brahms metamorphoses on a theme from the Brahms Piano Quartet op 25 were composed as the film music for the Swiss cinema film "Wachtmeister Zumbühl". In many psychologizing variations - sometimes close to the Brahms quotation and sometimes very freely removed - sensitive moods are conjured up, which animate with suggestive power to a "head cinema".
