April, May, June....musical diversity

FROM THE GERMAN COMPOSER AWAR (DEUTSCHER MUSIKAUTORENPREIS) TO „SISYPHOS“.

The months of April, May, and June were defined by contrast. In addition to infinite meetings, paperwork, and other obligations I dealt with as the head of the supervisory board of the GEMA, president of the German Composer Association, and chair of the German Music Council (e.g. opening speeches for the German Composer Award, the role as the chairman of the general meeting, and my presence at the Frankfurt Music Fair), I also celebrated my 65th birthday by doing what really makes me happy: my work ... to be more specific ... there was a week spent with the DSO/German Symphony Orchestra at the Berlin Teldex Studios to record a demanding program for the 4th WERGO CD: the 2nd Symphony 'SISYPHOS' (with Johannes Fischer/percussions), the violin concert AUGEN DER ERDE - Eyes of the Earth (with Ingolf Turban), and the double concert DR. JEKYLL & MR. HYDE (with the two cello stars Jens-Peter Maintz and Wolfgang Emmanuel Schmidt), cond.: Wolfgang Lischke..... In addition to that, I developed new compositions, such as PROPHECY. FOUR HORSEMEN OF THE APOCALYPSE for 4 organs, 4 trumpets, 4 horns, 4 strings, flute, and kettledrum (world premiere under my direction at the Philharmonic Orchestra in Danzig), or Yi JING. TRIGRAMMS FOR SHENG & CHINESE ORCHESTRA (world premiere in December in Taipei together with the National Chinese Orchestra Taiwan), a LEIPZIG LAUDAMUS (world premiere in September on the occasion of the sanctification of the newly built Propsteikirche in Leipzig). I also created two new scores for the ARTE-HR series 'FÄHRPASSAGEN' (Ferry Passages) and two scores for the HR documentary series 'HESSEN VON OBEN' (Hesse from the top). ..... and there were world premieres, almost back to back: the violin concert AUGEN DER ERDE (Eyes of the Earth) on the 24th of April at Theater Bad Reichenhall (with Ingolf Turban, cond.: Hansjörg Albrecht), THREE CHORALS FROM THE 'HOBBIT' MOVIES (that have just been published by Carus-Verlag) on the 9th of May in Ulm, together with the Ulmer Spatzen, the oboe concert CONCERTO B-A-C-H on the 28th of May on the occasion of the Mozartfest in Würzburg (with Albrecht Mayer/Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra, cond.: Enrico Calesso), the third Bayreuth Oratorio TAUBE, WASSER, FEUERSTURM - Dove, Water, Firestorm (Stadtkirche Bayreuth) on the 14th of June, the pre-world premiere of PROPHECY at the Organ Gala Night in Landsberg on the 20th of June, the M.Luther motet SIE IST MIR LIEB - She is dear to me at the Eichstätt Cathedral together with the Regensburger Domspatzen on the 28th of June, and the world premiere of DUNKELREISE - Dark Journey for oboe and strings at the Lansberg Sommermusiken on the 5th of July (together with the ensemble Berlin and Christoph Hartmann/Berlin Philharmonic Orchestra).
